The Common Room
Refrigerator's full right now
And gurgling with pleasure,
I notice lots of other sounds
Now that I'm at my leisure.

The toaster oven's bragging how
His mouth can get much hotter;
The microwave replies that he
More quickly boils water.

The books have awfully lots to say,
I have to shut them up,
The tea is glowing warm with pride,
Complicit with the cup.

My big, black chair reproaches me
Because I'm in the other,
But this one gives a little more,
And comforts like a mother.

Three candles huddled close conspire,
Maybe 'cause they're red,
My bedroom feels neglected
'Cause I didn't make the bed.

My radiator's giving all
The heat that he can muster,
The dirty dishes lie there like
The dead 'round General Custer.

The windows are transparent,
It's their way when there's no frost;
Outside, a breeze inquires
For it seems that she is lost.

My honey bear is standing upside down,
Most empty headed;
Across the room my boots embrace
Like soul mates once they've wedded.

The wine glass gives a look that says
She's far too fine for water;
So I must remind her of the store
In which I bought her.

The little orange sea shell looks
Mysterious with mirth,
For we both know that he's
The most important thing on earth.

I do not yet know why that is,
But one day soon I will,
And then we'll unlock heaven's gate;
Now won't that be a thrill!
